Fiery Foods UK & Grillstock BBQ Festival, Bristol

New BBQ food show will crown 'King of the Grill'

BRISTOL is set for a taste of the Deep South this summer with the UK's first full-blown US-style barbecue competition and food show sponsored by Weber UK.

Grillstock 2010 is a barbecue themed two-day food and drink festival taking place at Bristol's waterfront on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th July. The event will see up to 150 of the UK’s top barbecue chefs battling it out for the title of 'King of the Grill' in the two-day competition with an anticipated 10,000 visitors who will all have the opportunity to taste and vote for their favourite BBQ food.

Up to thirty teams will compete for the coveted 'King Of The Grill' trophy sponsored by Napoleon Grills over the course of the weekend with individual trophies for five key categories: Best Chicken; Best Ribs; Best Pork Shoulder and Best BBQ Sauce; and the Best dish made from a selection of 'mystery box' ingredients. Bristol-based chef Mitch Tonks will lead the professional team of judges sampling every dish. The overall winner will be the team who gain the highest score in all categories and they will go on to represent the UK at the World Championship Barbecue Competition at the Memphis in May International Festival.

Visitors will witness first-hand the skills of the very best BBQ Pitmasters and Grill-Chefs the UK has to offer and there will be free BBQ Masterclasses throughout the weekend in the The Big Green Egg Barbecue Academy.

Jon Finch, Grillstock's founder, said: "Grillstock 2010 will give the whole family the enjoyment of sampling local food, drink and cuisine as well as the opportunity to learn cookery skills and experience the excitement of a US-style BBQ competition. This is taking barbecuing to the realms of fine dining and will prove that there is plenty more to it than burgers and bangers."

The food festival will also feature over 100 artisan food stands offering the very best in local food, drink, produce and cooking equipment from across the South West. Additional attractions will include live music from local bands, a beer tent and further live cookery demo's across the weekend.

Marco Pierre White will be appearing on Sunday when he will be promoting the his own range of barbecues and the ‘MarcO-Grill’ in the Barbecue Centre sponsored by HeavenChef and showcasing the very latest in barbecues and equipment from the top manufacturers.

There will also be a chilli eating-competition each day in the Fiery Foods marquee – not for faint hearted. You can also sample and buy from hundreds of different chilli sauces, marinades and even buy seeds and plants.

Show organisers have had a fantastic response from food producers, BBQ teams and restaurants who are signing up fast. Advance tickets go on sale on 1st May at £4.00 per day or £6.50 for the weekend (they will be £5.00 per day or £8.00 for the weekend when purchased at Grillstock 2010). Children under 16 are free but must be accompanied by an adult. Find out more at www.grillstock.co.uk.
