Join us at the Ryton for Chilli Day and Exotic Crop Fair on Saturday 17th August 10.00am-4.00pm, for a day of all things hot and exotic!
If you're bored of the usual vegetables, come to Ryton Gardens and learn all about growing and cooking exotic plants and vegetables. There will be a range of stalls filled with fresh chillies, exotic plants and seeds, sauces and food to browse, taste and buy, along with demonstrations on growing and cooking exotic vegetables.
Dare you take the Chilli Challenge?
For the braver visitors, there will be the chance to take part in our chilli challenge! See how far you dare venture up the Scoville Scale of chillis, starting at the milder ones Doux Long Des Handes, Aji Panca and ending at the Red Trinidad Scorpion – the world’s hottest chilli!
Visitors can also create and cook their own organic pizza, discover how to make their own garam masala, learn how to save seeds, try their hand at potting plants and taking cuttings from lemongrass.
Get in the party mood
Those that fancy strutting their stuff on the dancefloor can join in with some salsa and merengue dance line-ups and learn simple moves for these popular dances. Beginners welcome!
Explore the gardens with a guided tour
There will be tours of the organic gardens and the opportunity to have an exclusive tour of the exotic gardens, given by Garden Organic’s experts.
Children’s activities
For the younger visitors there will be a range of children’s activities going on all day, including our Exotic Veg hunt, and the chance to meet some friendly Alpacas!
All these great activities are located in the beautiful organic showcase gardens at Ryton which will be open for you to explore all day, along with the popular 100% organic café, featuring a special chilli menu, and well stocked shop.
