The 1st Upton Cheyney Chilli Cook-Off

The 1st Upton Cheyney Chilli Cook-Off

Jon Doody is organising the "1st Upton Cheyney Chilli Cook-off" at the Upton Cheyney Chilli Festival on 8th September 2012 and he's looking for teams to enter.

Teams will have 4 hours to cook a gallon of chilli con carne from scratch (no per-cooking or pre-marinading allowed). After the 4 hours is up, a judging sample is then handed in to be judged by a panel of chilli experts, The chilli entry with the most points wins £250. There's room for up to 20 teams to compete this year.

After the judging sample is given in, each team will hand out small sample cups to the general public so that the public they can taste each teams efforts. The public will pay just £1, which will be given to charity to be able to sample every team's efforts.

This competition ran twice previously in Reading to much success! The organisers of the Upton Cheyney Chilli Festival, which will see over 4000 people attend, asked Jon to run the event this year at their show. Jon is keen to bring this American-style event to the UK and started the event just because he wanted to enter one himself, but couldn't find any competitions!
